Trade Event Has Printing and Packaging Business All Wrapped Up
12 November 2007

The upcoming leading regional trade fair for the printing and packaging industries offers fairgoers unrivalled opportunities for expansion into the Chinese mainland market.

The Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair 2008 is supported by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Printing and Printing Equipment Industries Association of China, The Printing Technology Association of China, Guangdong Printing And Replicate Association and Guangzhou Packaging & Printing Industry Association etc.

"Interest in the Chinese mainland market is buoyant, and this is a major driver behind the success of the fair," pointed out Raymond Yip, Assistant Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). "The consumer market in the mainland is strong and very competitive - this is putting a focus on the importance of sophisticated printing and packaging as a means of attracting consumers, which has all led to a boom in the printing and packaging industries," he added.

Sam Xie, Managing Director of CIEC Exhibition Company (HK) Limited (CIEC) said, "Recent trade statistics show Hong Kong's total exports of packing materials for industries for the first nine months of 2007 reached US$2.3 billion (HK$18.6 billion). Around 60% of these exports went to the Chinese mainland. Hong Kong's total exports of printed matter in the same period totalled US$1.8 billion (HK$14.1 billion), up 9% from the same period in the preceding year."

Hong Kong's reputation as a printing and packaging hub makes it well-placed to take advantage of the booming mainland market. As a result the Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair has quickly become a key industry event. The 2007 fair, which took place in April, drew in 10,900 visitors from 113 countries and regions, over 20% more than the year before.

The Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair 2008 runs from 28 April to 1 May 2008. It takes place at AsiaWorld-Expo which is conveniently located for international exhibitors and visitors, next to Hong Kong International Airport.

A total of 346 exhibitors from seven countries and regions participated in the 2007 fair. One of the many happy exhibitors was Gabriel Anthony Pappu, Marketing Manager-Export, Kian Joo Can Factory Berhad, Malaysia. "An international show like this one for our type of industry indeed provides an excellent platform for exposing ourselves to potential customers from all over the world," he enthused.

Major products on display at the 2008 fair will include packaging materials and accessories, pre-press services, graphic arts and design services, multimedia technologies and services, printing and packaging equipment and services, finishing and converting services, consultancy and training services, and printing and packaging equipment and systems.

A concurrent event is the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair. The largest fair of its kind in Asia and second largest in the world, the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair attracted over 50,000 visitors in 2007. This fair takes place at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, which is linked to AsiaWorld-Expo during fair opening hours by frequent complimentary shuttle buses for fairgoers.

The Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair is organised by HKTDC in conjunction with CIEC, and co-organised by the Hong Kong Printers Association and the Graphic Arts Association of Hong Kong.
